17 law students taken into custody in Chennai

Seventeen law students were on Thursday arrested on charges of ransacking the Sri Lankan Deputy Commissioner’s office in Chennai, police said.

About 20 students of Madras Law College suddenly entered the High Commissioner’s office and started damaging the glass windows and other office equipment including computers, police said.

They raised slogans expressing solidarity with the Lankan Tamils and against the Sri Lankan government.

However, no one was injured in the incident, police said.
